SHR Technology (Super Hair Removal)

SHR stands for Super Hair Removal and describes a principle, not a single device: instead of a few high-energy pulses, many low-energy pulses are delivered in rapid succession. Heat builds gradually and acts on the stem cell region of the follicle. This is gentler, but it demands careful technique — uneven handpiece movement produces uneven results.

A principle, not a brand

SHR describes a way of working that several manufacturers implement. If you hear "SHR treatment", ask which device and which wavelength are actually being used.

The core principle: many pulses at low individual energy rather than few pulses at high energy. Target temperature in the follicle is reached step by step.

The point of action shifts slightly — alongside the hair shaft, the stem cell region of the follicle is also heated. That is one reason SHR can show effect on finer hair.

Strengths and limits

The gentler approach brings advantages — and some constraints.

What matters in practice

Because the handpiece glides, the result depends more on the practitioner's technique than with single-pulse systems. Pass over a zone too quickly and it stays undertreated.

Areas are therefore worked systematically with a defined number of passes, and this is documented so that follow-up sessions remain comparable.

With SHR too: no pigment in the hair means no effect, and the realistic goal is permanent reduction, not complete hair removal.

Frequently asked questions

Is SHR a device name?
No, SHR describes a working principle implemented by several manufacturers. Ask which device and wavelength are used — that tells you more than the acronym.
Does SHR work on fine hair?
SHR heats the stem cell region of the follicle alongside the hair shaft, so it can show effect on finer hair. On completely unpigmented hair, however, SHR does not work either.
Why does the result depend on the practitioner?
The handpiece glides across the skin. Pass over a zone too quickly and it stays undertreated. Systematic work with a defined number of passes is therefore decisive.
Are session intervals shorter?
Often slightly shorter than conventional systems, usually 4-6 weeks. The exact interval follows body area and hair cycle.
Is SHR safer on dark skin?
Lower individual energy widens the safety margin. On very dark skin, wavelength remains decisive; Nd:YAG is the safe foundation there.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on area, hair structure, skin type and hormonal factors. After the first session the course can be assessed more accurately.
