In breast lift surgeries, the scar can take different shapes — this can be a T, a J, an L, or a lollipop shape. These are completely discussed with the patient, and with proper planning, depending on the need, they are decisions that must be made. But the final scar is determined by one of the most important things: the patient's genetics, the tissue's healing capacity, and related factors. When we treat the tissue gently and carefully, and when we create minimal trauma, the healing process is much more controlled and beautiful. In breast lift surgery, rather than the shape and length of the scar, the primary focus should be: can we create the new breast shape the patient desires? This is truly important. Ultimately, if the final scar remains a thin and faded mark, and if it becomes a scar compatible with the patient's body, it doesn't bother the patient — and leaves us quite satisfied as well.
What Is a Breast Lift and Who Is It For?
It is ideal for people with breast sagging (ptosis) from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or age, whose nipple points downward but who are happy with their size. It restores lift and a fuller upper pole without increasing size.
If only lift is wanted, a mastopexy alone is used; if both lift and volume are wanted, it is combined with an implant (augmentation-mastopexy). The scar pattern is planned by the degree of sagging.
It is performed under general anaesthesia. A surgical bra is worn the first days; swelling and tenderness subside within a few weeks. Return to work is at 1 week and heavy sport at 4–6 weeks.
