Laser Hair Removal for Men
In men, hair is generally thicker, denser and more deeply anchored. That requires higher fluences and usually more sessions than for women. The most common target areas are back, shoulders, chest and neck. A distinct use case is ingrown beard hair — here the aim is not cosmetic but reducing recurrent inflammation.
Why more sessions are needed
Male body hair is thicker, sits deeper and grows more densely. Reaching the follicle requires higher fluences — which also makes the treatment more noticeable.
Back, shoulders and chest are also under androgenic influence. After a series is complete, individual follicles may become active again, particularly in younger men whose hair pattern is still developing.
For that reason very young patients are often advised to wait. A series begun while hair growth is still changing works against a moving baseline.

Ingrown beard hair
Pseudofolliculitis barbae occurs when curly beard hair grows back into the skin after shaving. Inflammation and papules follow, and with a chronic course, scarring and pigment marks.
Nd:YAG is the treatment of choice here: safe on darker skin types, and by reducing hair density the inflammation recurs less often. The aim is not necessarily hair freedom but a density at which shaving becomes tolerable again.
Where inflammation is active, it is allowed to settle before the series begins. A laser on inflamed skin makes the situation worse.
Beard outline
If the beard area is treated, the intended outline must be clear beforehand. Reduction is permanent — a line set too far cannot be undone.
The planned line is therefore marked and confirmed together before the first session. When in doubt, work conservatively: more can be removed later, but nothing can be brought back.
