Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Istanbul

“In aesthetics, the most important principle for me is trust and naturalness; I offer each patient a personalised, realistic and balanced plan.”

— Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın · Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery

Otoplasty sets prominent (protruding) ears closer to the head by reshaping the cartilage, giving a permanent, natural ear contour. It is performed in both children and adults.

What Is Otoplasty and Who Is It For?

It treats congenital protruding ears (prominent ears) or insufficient folds of the ear cartilage. The most common candidates are school-age children (after 5–6 years, when ear growth is largely complete) and adults.

The procedure permanently reshapes the cartilage; the scar stays hidden behind the ear. Any asymmetry between the two ears is balanced in one session.

Procedure and Recovery

It is performed under local (adults) or general (children) anaesthesia. A headband is advised day and night for the first 1–2 weeks, then at night for a while. Swelling and tenderness subside within a few weeks.

Istanbul stands out in aesthetic-surgery tourism with experienced plastic surgeons, accredited operating theatres and affordable pricing. All surgery is performed by Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın.

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) — Frequently Asked Questions

It is usually advised from 5–6 years, when ear growth is largely complete; at this age the cartilage is suitable and the child can cooperate.
The incision is made in the natural fold behind the ear and is not visible from outside; it fades further over time.
In adults local anaesthesia is usually enough; in children general anaesthesia is generally preferred for comfort.
You return to daily life within a few days; a headband is worn for the first 1–2 weeks and contact sports are avoided for 3–4 weeks.
Because the cartilage is permanently reshaped, the result is lasting; the ears do not spring back.
Yes; with a one-sided prominent ear only that ear can be corrected, though both ears are assessed together for symmetry.
You feel no pain during the procedure thanks to anaesthesia; mild throbbing and tenderness afterwards are easily controlled with painkillers.
As with any surgery, infection, bleeding/haematoma, asymmetry, suture-related sensory change and rarely recurrence are possible. An experienced team and proper care minimise these.
The ear position improves immediately; it can take a few weeks to months for swelling to fully settle and the natural look to set.
One/both ears, the type of anaesthesia and any additional correction determine the cost. Send photos for a transparent, all-inclusive quote.
