Rhinoplasty
Nose Job

“In rhinoplasty my aim is never an 'operated' nose; I plan a natural, balanced result according to each patient's facial proportions and breathing function.”

— Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın · Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to harmonise with facial proportions and, where needed, corrects a breathing/septum problem. Open, closed, preservation and tip-plasty techniques are chosen by case. It is performed by our experienced team. For all surgical procedures see our surgical aesthetics page.

Rhinoplasty Techniques

The right technique depends on the nasal structure, the goal and any breathing issue; the decision is made by examination.

MethodApproachHighlight
Open RhinoplastySmall columellar incision + intranasalWide view; complex and revision cases
Closed RhinoplastyIntranasal onlyNo external scar; in suitable cases
PreservationPreserves the natural dorsumNatural dorsal line
Tip PlastyNasal tip onlyMinor shape refinements
Non-surgical (filler)Shaping with fillerMinor asymmetry; not permanent

The table is for general information; the suitable technique is determined with a personalised assessment.

The Rhinoplasty Process

  • Consultation and nasal analysis: the target shape is assessed; a simulation is done in suitable cases.
  • Goal setting: the aesthetic expectation and, where needed, a breathing/septum issue are planned together.
  • General anaesthesia: the procedure is done in a fully equipped theatre with an expert team.
  • Technique: the suitable open/closed/preservation approach is applied.
  • Splint and, if needed, silicone packing: placed to support the nose.
  • Same-day/observation and stay: a stay of about 7 days in Istanbul is usually advised until the splint is removed.

Recovery and Result

  • The splint usually stays about 1 week; the first contour is seen when it is removed.
  • Initial swelling and bruising mostly subside markedly within 1-2 weeks.
  • Social recovery is usually 2 weeks; makeup allows an earlier return.
  • Full resolution of fine tip swelling can take 6-12 months; the result becomes clear over this time.
  • Tailored restrictions are given for smoking, heavy exertion and glasses use.
  • If a revision is needed, it is usually assessed after at least 1 year, once tissues have fully settled.

Rhinoplasty — Frequently Asked Questions

Rhinoplasty is nose surgery that reshapes the nose to harmonise with facial proportions and, where needed, corrects a breathing/septum problem.
The open technique gives a wide view and is preferred in complex/revision cases; the closed technique leaves no external scar. The suitable approach is chosen by case.
It reshapes the nose while preserving its natural dorsal structure as much as possible; in suitable cases it gives a natural dorsal line.
Yes; a deviated septum and other breathing issues can be corrected in the same session as aesthetic rhinoplasty (septorhinoplasty).
Filler can temporarily correct minor asymmetry and depressions; but it does not reduce the nose and is not permanent. Surgery is needed for lasting change.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, in a fully equipped theatre with an expert team.
Duration varies with the technique and case; it usually takes a few hours. The exact time is shared per your plan.
The splint usually stays about 1 week; swelling and bruising subside markedly within 1-2 weeks. Social recovery is usually 2 weeks.
The overall look settles within weeks; full resolution of fine tip swelling and the final result can take 6-12 months.
Cost depends on the technique and case (for example if a septum is involved). Find out a suitable, transparent, all-inclusive plan at a free assessment.
Rhinoplasty and all aesthetic and surgical procedures are planned and personally performed by Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın, Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. A graduate of İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine with reconstructive microsurgery experience at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan), Dr. Taşkın's expertise is the foundation of safe, natural results.
It is done under general anaesthesia by reshaping the cartilage and bone of the nose and usually takes 2–3 hours; I plan and perform the surgery personally.
There may be swelling and bruising in the first week and the splint is removed at 7 days; you return to social life in 7–10 days, while the final shape settles over 6–12 months.
My goal is always a natural nose that suits your facial proportions and does not look operated; I plan individually based on facial analysis.
With modern techniques post-operative pain is usually mild and easily controlled with simple painkillers; most patients find the process more comfortable than expected.
Both have their place; the open technique suits detailed tip work, the closed technique more limited corrections, and I decide based on your nasal structure.
In most cases I now use silicone splints that do not block breathing instead of the classic painful packing, which makes recovery far more comfortable.
Yes; along with the aesthetic correction we can address breathing issues such as a deviated septum and turbinates in the same operation.
The nose's new structure is permanent; once the tissue settles the result is maintained for life with no further procedure needed.
Anyone whose nasal growth is complete (usually over 18), in good general health and with realistic expectations is suitable; we confirm suitability at the examination.
