Forehead Reduction
Istanbul

“In facial rejuvenation I aim for a rested, not a 'pulled' look; by tightening the tissues in the right direction and in balance, I provide a natural result that looks like your own face.”

— Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın · Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery

Forehead reduction (hairline lowering) surgically shortens a tall/broad forehead by advancing the hairline. Through a hidden incision along the hairline, a strip of forehead skin is removed and the scalp is brought forward to shorten the forehead.

What Is Forehead Reduction and Who Is It For?

It is for people with a genetically or structurally tall/broad forehead who want a shorter, balanced forehead-hairline. In candidates with sufficiently lax scalp, a marked result is achieved in one session.

Unlike a hair transplant, the existing hairline is moved forward as a whole; for very tall foreheads it can be planned with a hair transplant. Suitability is decided at examination.

Procedure and Recovery

It is done under local/sedation or general anaesthesia. There is mild swelling in the first days; sutures/staples are removed at 7–10 days. As hair in front of the scar grows, the line looks natural and is camouflaged.

Istanbul stands out in aesthetic-surgery tourism with experienced plastic surgeons, accredited operating theatres and affordable pricing. All surgery is performed by Op. Dr. Selman Taşkın.

Forehead Reduction / Hairline Lowering — Frequently Asked Questions

Forehead reduction moves the existing hairline forward in one session for a fast, marked result; a hair transplant adds grafts to densify the line. For very tall foreheads the two can be planned together.
The incision is made along the hairline, and with the trichophytic technique hair grows through/in front of the scar to camouflage it; it becomes even less visible over time.
Depending on scalp laxity, lowering of about 1–2.5 cm is usually possible; if needed, tissue expansion or an additional session is considered.
Depending on scope, local anaesthesia/sedation or general anaesthesia is used; you feel no pain during surgery.
Sutures/staples are removed at 7–10 days; swelling subsides in 1–2 weeks. Most people return to social life within a week.
Yes; because the hairline is permanently moved forward, the result is lasting.
There can be temporary shock shedding around the scar; the hair usually regrows within a few months.
You feel no pain during the procedure thanks to anaesthesia; post-operative tightness and mild soreness are easily controlled with painkillers.
Rarely, scar visibility, temporary reduced sensation behind the scar, temporary hair shedding and asymmetry are possible. Correct technique and an experienced team reduce the risks.
The amount of lowering, whether a hair transplant is added, anaesthesia and hospital time determine the cost. Send a forehead/hairline photo for a transparent, all-inclusive quote.
